Flooding issues and its impact in Co Cavan was raised during a Dáil debate this week. In 2009 the OPW introduced the minor flood mitigation works scheme which enabled local authorities to carry out flood mitigation works to address problems in their areas.
Deputy Brendan Smith told the Dail that Cavan County Council has a number of proposals before the OPW and he called on the Minister to advance those proposals as quickly as possible. He said the Maples estate in the county town and the Meadows estate in Shercock have endured heavy flooding in recent weeks - a matter that requires urgent attention under the scheme.
Meanwhile, Minister of State Ossian Smyth, committed to giving both matters "urgent consideration".
