Five Rural development projects have officially opened today in Aughnamullen in County Monaghan following funding of almost €420,000 from the government.
The major investment unveiled today includes an Outdoor Multi Use Games Area which received €121,000 under the LEADER Programme.
Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys officially opened the projects this afternoon.
During her visit Minister Humphreys also officially unveiled the new flood lights at Aughnamullen GAA club, as well as the clubs car park, and the footpath connecting the Catholic Church with Lough Egish Food Park.
She also launched the new Smart Villages Plan, which is designed to make the community a better place to live, work and raise a family.
In launching the projects, Minister Humphreys said there's a great fact about Aughnamullen, which is that the parish has one of the highest youth populations in County Monaghan.
The local Minister added that you can really see the kind of benefits that these projects will bring to the lives of so many young people and indeed their families in the community.
"And that plan is all about making Aughnamullen a more vibrant and attractive place to live, work, invest and raise a family".
"So I tell you one thing – you’d need a calculator to tot up the scale of the investment that has gone in to the various projects that we are opening today. It’s a total investment would you believe of almost €418,000 – and it certainly in my view is money well spent".
