Ireland's first ever national conference on women in farming will take place in the coming months.
Local Fianna Fail Deputy, Niamh Smyth said the key role of women in agriculture and food production cannot be overstated.
She highlighted how the convening of this national conference would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to gain insights on how to increase the visibility and status of women in the industry.
Meanwhile, women account for 13% of all farm holders in Ireland.
CSO figures indicate that approximately 75,000 female work on farms in Ireland - 58,000 of them remain invisible and without status.
