Ireland's first ever national conference for women in farming is set to take place soon.
Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalogue, made the announcement this week.
Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Deputy Smyth, said the role of women in both farming and food production cannot be overstated.
She highlighted how their involvement and "invaluable input" is not as well documented, or acknowledged in the same way as that of their male peers.
Deputy Smyth added the conference will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to provide input on how to increase the visibility and status of women in agriculture.
