The first connection under the National Broadband Plan has been made in Co Monaghan.
Over 16,000 premises in the county are included in the State's Intervention Area and the first premises in Monaghan have been successfully connected.
Co Monaghan will receive €60 million of Government investment under the National Broadband Plan.
David McCourt, Chairman of National Broadband Ireland, called it a "key milestone for the intervention area."
Meanwhile, local Minister Heather Humphreys said it will "will enable small businesses to operate online efficiently and ensure the people of Monaghan have access to fit-for-purpose broadband".
At a December meeting of the Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD, councillors were informed that it will be December of 2026 before Castleblayney is connected under the National Broadband Plan.
