Monaghan County Council's Fire Service is marking National Fire Safety Week with several local initiatives.
Aimed at promoting fire safety at home, the message from this year's campaign is 'Safe Together', this year's campaign is running from today until October 17th
Local primary school children are taking part in a 'Fire Safety' poster competition and Monaghan Fire and Civil protection are encouraging people to have smoke alarms and test them. They also want people to check their eldery neighbours' smoke alarms if necessary.
Siobhán McKenna, the Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer for Monaghan County Council, asked people to check out Fire Safety Week information to make themselves aware of fire risks in the home.
She said it was always good to ask yourself if you have an elderly or vulnerable neighbour who may need some assistance in testing their smoke alarm or advice on where to pick one up.
Ms McKenna also said "There are other risks that people should be conscious of from a fire safety perspective."
She said this was "even more important since more people are working from home because of a blended work situation.
"Everyone should just be more conscious at home now," she concluded.
