Always have a working fire alarm.
That's the advice of Monaghan's Chief Fire Officer, Dermot Brannigan, as
local services strive to ensure safety in the home this Christmas.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Mr Brannigan said that a fire alarm
is the only method of early detection should a fire break out.
He also pointed out that at this time of the year electrical appliances are
often overloaded so it's important to "turn off and plug out" when not in use.
Mr Brannigan added that closing doors at night will also help to prevent the
spread of fire in the event of one breaking out at home.
