A Cavan councillor has called for more education on the banking system within local colleges and schools. According to Fine Gael's TP O'Reilly, there is "very little" one-on-one opportunities to learn more about local banking services for young people.
Cllr O'Reilly said it's hard for youngsters to understand financial processes, particularly when it come to mortgages and what is needed to attain one. As a result, Cllr O'Reilly put forward a motion on the matter at a recent meeting of Cavan County Council, adding that local banks need to offer more educational support to young people.
He is asking the local authority to contact local financial institutes to see if there is a programme for young people in place, and if not, if something could be organised as a matter of urgency.
