A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions after a man was questioned over the theft of telephone cables in Cavan, Monaghan, Louth and Meath in recent days.
In the six months to February, there were 66 incidents of cable theft nationwide, predominantly in the north-east of the country.
Meanwhile, the man - aged in his 30s - was detained for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Law Act 1984.
Gardai have confirmed that their investigations into the matter are continuing.
