Almost 200 incidents of drink driving were recorded across Co Monaghan this year.
182 cases were recorded for 2022, compared to 181 recorded back in 2021.
Speaking in relation to the figures at a recent sitting of County Monaghan Joint Policing Committee.
Superintendent Pat O'Connell revealed that he is "conscious" that we are heading into the Christmas period.
As a result, he has urged motorists to "never drink and drive" and to plan events in advance so that a designated driver can be arranged, or alternatively motorists can leave their car at home.
Cllr Brian McKenna reiterated Superintendent O'Connell's warning, adding that the last thing anyone wants to see is any further tragedies occurring on local roads.
