National Broadband Ireland has announced that construction has commenced to deliver high-speed broadband to almost 2,900 premises in the Carrickmacross and to over 400 premises in Kingscourt.
There are currently16,000 premises in the Intervention Area across Cavan and Monaghan that includes homes, farms, commercial businesses and schools.
Under the National Broadband Plan, both counties will see a combined investment of €125m in the new high speed fibre network.
Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer of National Broadband Ireland says that teams are continuing to work on the rollout plan and substantial progress has been made on works throughout this region. He added the company is "confident" that the rollout will gather pace and include minimum speeds of 500Mbps.
