A Fianna Fáil Senator who drafted a government bill on the provision of period products says it's "very exciting" that Cabinet has supported the bill.
Lorraine Clifford-Lee's bill seeks to set out and regulate access to free period products and the Senator says she'll "work closely with the Department of Health to develop and enact it as soon as possible".
According to Plan International Ireland, 60% of girls have missed school as a result of period poverty.
Clifford-Lee has worked closely with students in developing the bill and Monaghan student Meabh Cusack says women shouldn't face barriers in accessing products they need to manage their health:
