The build-up to local elections later this year gets off to a start in Monaghan tomorrow (THURSDAY) night. Fianna Fáil will hold its election convention to select their candidates for this summer's election to the Ballybay - Clones Municipal District. Two new candidates, Martina Durkin from Greenan's Cross and John Connolly from the Connons, have thrown their names in the election hat. Cllr Seamus Coyle is seeking election for the fifth time.
Also in attendance at the election convention in the Creighton Hotel, Clones tomorrow evening will be the party's three candidates for the upcoming European elections. Senator Niall Blaney from Donegal, Mayo Senator Lisa Chambers and Barry Owen from Offaly will all be there as will Fianna Fáil's Cavan-Monaghan oireachtas members.
The three local candidates are expected to address the convention setting out their targets should they be elected. All Fianna Fáil members and their families are invited to the event which begins at 8pm.
