The launch of a new book based on the Fermanagh Civil Rights Movement will take place in the Millennium Hall, Donagh at 8pm tonight. Author and Fermanagh native Dermot Maguire, was asked to write the book at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, something which he says "kept him sane" over the lockdown period.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Drumlone author revealed that that he himself was briefly involved in the campaign, before moving to train as a teacher in Belfast.
He added that when growing up in Fermanagh at that time, it was "hard" to ignore what was going on around you and the inequality of many things.
"It was really West of the Bann where most of the discrimination was," explained Dermot. "Areas like Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry City had a majority of nationalists and the unionists saw that as something to try and wipe-out rather than accommodate and they used discrimination through jobs and housing as there method."
