Women of all ages across County Monaghan are being encouraged to attend a plenary meeting of the Monaghan Women's Assembly which will take place tomorrow night at the Four Seasons Hotel.
Proceedings are due to kick-off at 7pm.
According to Chairperson of the group and local councillor Cathy Bennett, the meeting is an attempt to get more women from across local communities involved in politics.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Bennett highlighted that apart from herself and Fianna Fail's Aoife McCooey, there are no other female politicians on Monaghan County Council.
She added that it is imperative that women share their voice, and engage in political conversation for the better of society as a whole.
"Most councils across Ireland are predominantly male, and we as women need to stand up to the mark and change that," explained Cathy.
"The only way it will change is if we get more women at the table. It's important that they know their voice is very much welcomed and that we want to hear from them."
Guest Speaker on the night is Dr Michelle Maher from She Her Elected (SHE), followed by Q&A with Cllr Cathy Bennett and Cllr Aoife Mc Cooey.
According to Cllr Bennett the event will provide a great opportunity to find out how women can get involved in local politics along with a brief guide to becoming a candidate for the 2024 local elections.
