The Féile Patrick Byrne festival is making its annual return to Carrickmacross next month. At the end of this week the launch of the festival takes places at the Patrick Kavanagh centre in Inniskeen on February 25th.
Speaking to Northern Sound Sean O Roideain said organisers are launching this year's Féile Patrick Byrne with a special one-off concert featuring the Máirtín O'Connor Trio.
Joining Máirtín will be Cathal Hayden and Seamie O'Dowd in a night of music not to be missed, with tickets available from the Kavanagh Centre. The féile weekend will take place from Thursday the 30th of March to April 2nd.
Among the confirmed artists so far are the Salamanca Céilí Band who will play for the sets céilí on the Sunday. It's in its 17th year Sean told Northern Sound that the original idea of the festival was to commemorate the life and work of Patrick Byrne who was born in Magheracloone and is buried in Carrickmacross.
He added that the famous Patrick Byrne was one of the last great Gaelic harpists in Ireland and was the first ever Irish traditional musician to be photographed.
