The annual Feile Patrick Byrne Festival is returning to Co Monaghan this weekend with a jam packed line up of events. Concerts are taking place at a number of locations in and around Carrickmacross, bringing the best in traditional Irish music and dance to audiences from around the country.
Proceedings kick off on Thursday night with a presentation to Francie O'Donohue, founding member of Comhaltas in Carrickmacross. On Friday, St Finbarr's Church in Carrickmacross will be the venue for singer, songwriter, Gráinne Holland.
Organiser, Seán Ó'Roideáin, told Northern Sound that there will be something for everyone to enjoy this weekend. He added that the venues chosen boast that intimate and small setting which affords an opportunity for the best acoustics to emerge.
"For the festival, the main concerts are in St Finbarr's Church of Ireland in Carrickmacross; the acoustics there are fantastic. That's the wonderful thing about churches, they were designed around singing; or a vicar or priest projecting their voice and using the building to be able project rather than PA.
"So, as a result, the acoustics are wonderful in the building," said Sean.
