A feasibility study has been ordered on Gallows Hill in Carrickmacross. The historical site in the town is a green space which could be utilised for the benefit of the community. Contracts were signed yesterday starting the process of researching and planning for the best projects for the Hill behind the courthouse.
Once the results of the study become available Monaghan County Council will then apply for funding to pay for the development of playparks, walkways and natural features at the green space. This latest development follows on from contract-signing to convert the Carrickmacross Workhouse into a community, tourism and arts hub and contracts signed on plans to develop a recreation centre including a swimming pool in the town.
Carrickmacrosss-Castleblayney Municipal District Councillor PJ O'Hanlon said all the projects will be a "boost" to the town: "We signed yesterday a feasibility study for the Gallows Hill so, those are the three projects that are going to be taking place in the future in Carrickmacross," he told Northern Sound, "And, hopefully, they will be finalised and completed within the next 12 months. We then apply for funding and hopefully get these projects underway and this would be a massive boost for the town."
