A 34-year old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of his 8 year old daughter in Co. Wexford. Mohammad Shaker Al Tamimi was also charged with the attempted murder of the girl's mother when he appeared in court last night.
Chief Reporter Barry Whyte was at Gorey District Court: "34-year-old Mohammad Shaker Al Tamimi is charged with the murder of his 8-year-old daughter Malika Noor Al Kattib at Lower William Street, New Ross, Co Wexford on Sunday night. Eight-year-old Malika died from her injuries in the early hours of Monday morning.
"Mr Al Tamimi is also charged with the attempted murder of his partner and Malaikas mother Aisha Al Kattib also on Sunday night. Detective Garda Donal Doyle said he arrested Mr Al Tamimi at University Hospital Waterford just after 5pm this evening.
The accused made no reply to the charges and he was remanded in custody to appear before Wexford District Court via video link at 10:30am on Monday 9 December."
