Following discussions with egg packers last night farmers protesting outside Aldi in Cavan town have agreed to suspend the protest outside the store. Farmers says the move is to allow for negotiations to be finalised.
Meanwhile, the protest continues outside Lidl and has entered day seven as local food producers highlight their plight in getting a fair price for their produce. Speaking to Northern Sound, IFA's Poultry Vice Chair Brendan Soden said egg producers in the region are facing closure because of the failure of the stores to give a fair return to farmers.
He added they would "stay put" until their demands are met.
