The Cathaoirleach of the Monaghan Municipal District, Cllr Cathy Bennett has called on both the Irish and British governments to deliver truth and justice in relation to the Dublin Monaghan bombings.
She says it unacceptable that, five decades later, the families are still waiting for accountability for the terrible atrocity that visited on our innocent and unsuspecting neighbours and friends. Cllr Bennett says only the truth will dispel the clouds that have hung over this town of Monaghan and over the city of Dublin for these past fifty years.
The darkest day of all during the Troubles was 17 May 1974, with the murder of 34 innocent people in Monaghan and Dublin and injuries caused to more than 300 people. The Sinn Fein Representative paid tribute to the campaigning families of the Monaghan and Dublin victims and to their frontline champions in Justice for the Forgotten and the Pat Finucane Centre.
As Honorary First Citizen, Cllr Bennett addressed the hundreds gathered at a commemorative event on Friday last, she appealed to all who can help secure a decision in both jurisdictions for the
release of all relevant documentation into the bombings.
