"Extreme winds" are set to hit Cavan and Monaghan tomorrow. That's according to Met Eireann forecaster and Magheracloone man Gerry Murphy who described Storm Eowyn as a "severe weather event" due to the fact that status red wind warnings have been put in place throughout the island of Ireland for the first time ever. According to Gerry; "It's difficult to say if we will have speeds of wind never seen before, that will only become apparent after the event. However, what we know now that is in store is certainly a very extreme weather event right across the North Midlands and the North-West region."
Met Eireann and the British Met Office have a total of six red alerts to run from the early hours of tomorrow morning. The red weather warning will be in place for counties Cavan and Monaghan from 6am tomorrow until 11am. Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr Murphy noted that winds won't just impact the likes of Leitrim and West Cavan, with high winds expected to travel across counties Cavan and Monaghan as a whole. He told Northern Sound; "This is the first time that both the republic and the north are in a red warning for a storm which is a good indication of how severe it is going to be everywhere." He added that caution is needed "throughout the day" with orange warnings in place until 4pm.
