A representative from St Christopher's Hospice Home Care in Cavan says extra funding will allow the hospice to upgrade to a level three service.
The Cavan hospice currently operates on level two, whereby care is administered by health care professionals who have additional knowledge of palliative care principles.
However, level three would see this care provided by health care professionals who work solely in palliative care, and who have extensive knowledge and skills in this specialty.
Over €38,000 has been raised so far as part of the Shannonside Northern Sound 'Let's Do it for Hospice- Everybody has a link to Cancer' campaign, which is raising money for several hospices in the region.
