Funding for the Local Improvement Scheme has been doubled by the Minister for Rural and Community Development.
Minister Heather Humphreys this morning announced an extra €10.5 million for the programme, which funds works to non-public roads across the country.
Funding was already announced earlier this year.
The scheme funds works on non-public roads across the country which local authorities do not normally maintain.
Property owners make a contribution towards the works.
Almost €1.5 million was announced for the five local counties under the scheme in May.
The previous LIS allocations for Cavan were criticised at this week's County Council meeting.
Although thankful for each allocation, Councillors said the "scattergun approach" to applying to various government departments for LIS money was wrong and the Minister for Transport needed to "step up to the plate" and give suitable funding.
