Monaghan County Council has received departmental approval to hire an additional dog warden. The news was welcomed by Sinn Fein's Sean Conlon who has made numerous calls over the last two years for another dog warden in the county. Cllr Conlon previously highlighted that there was only one warden at present and that another was needed to enforce the dog control act, amongst other duties.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Conlon noted the "growth" in dog ownership, particularly since the Covid pandemic and how resources did not match that increased growth. He described the decision to hire an additional warden as a "positive outcome" and a "long time coming."
