An extension to the footpath on the Cavan Road out of Kilnaleck is due to start this summer.
Councillor Trevor Smith at this month's meeting of the Ballyjamesduff MD called on the council to extend the partial path all the way to Kill Cross as it is on a busy road and has seen at least 2 accidents occur in recent years.
The calls were echoed by Cathaoirleach of the MD Craig Lovett, who said it was crucial to make it safer for the pedestrians who use it to get to work daily.
The executive confirmed that funding had been secured from the National Transport Authority under the Active Travel Scheme and they expect works to begin in the coming weeks.
