It's onwards and upwards for Coláiste Dún an Rí after approval was granted for a significant new extension yesterday.
The Department of Education gave the go-ahead for 23 new classrooms and specialist rooms like science labs, art rooms and special education facilities.
It follows the approval last week of temporary accommodation at the school.
The announcement will increase the school's capacity to over 1,000 students.
The school, which opened in 2016, caters for large areas of east Cavan, south Monaghan and west county Meath.
Local Councillor and Cathaoirleach of the County Council Clifford Kelly campaigned for the school to be opened and says the hard work of the staff and students is paying off:
The announcement has also been welcomed by local TD Niamh Smyth:
The extension will benefit both local industry and employment in the Kingscourt area according to the principal Fergal Boyle.
Education Minister Norma Foley officially welcomed the news, at an event at the school earlier this morning.
Principal Fergal Boyle says that it will not only allow for capacity of around 1,000 students over the next 3 to 4 years, but will also see them doubling their staff numbers across all departments.
He also stated that the growing industry in the local area will see the benefits of having a school of this scale available for families:
