CMETB staff past and present are celebrating today as word came that the proposed Further Eduation and Training Campus in Cavan has been progressed to the next stage. The campus has been given the green light to move to the design, planning and procurement pre-tender stage.
In 2020, the then Minister for Further and Higher Education, Simon Harris, announced funding of €40m for the new campus which would bring all third level courses under one roof in Cavan. Today, the Minister for Rural and Community Development. Heather Humphreys announced that CMETB has been given the green light to the next phase of its development, calling the project a "College of the Future".
Cavan County Councillor and Fine Gael election candidate, Carmel Brady, broke the news to Northern Sound earlier today and said the state-of-the-art campus will "put Cavan on the map". The former chairperson of the CMETB also said it will keep Cavan students in Cavan.
