Immigration along with mental health services for younger people, a special needs school and housing were the main issues on the doors according to David Maxwell. Speaking to Northern Sound from the Cavan Leisure Complex, the current Monaghan councillor says while "everyone wants to win" nobody can call it at this early stage adding that it will be a "process of elimination."
When asked about Heather Humphreys, Cllr Maxwell went on to describe her as "phenomenal." He also highlighted that he worked with Heather over the last 23 years. Following her decision to step away from politics, the pair "hit the ground running" says David after it was confirmed that he would instead run in the Cavan-Monaghan constituency.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Maxwell kept his cards close to his chest stating that there are a number of candidates who are in with a chance of the last couple of seats. He is hopeful to retain the Fine Gael, however says it's "too close to call" at this early stage.
