There has been public condemnation over criminal damage to a plaque in memory of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe in Kilnaleck.
The incident happened over the weekend.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Deputy Pauline Tully, herself a resident of the Co Cavan town said everyone is “shocked” over what happened.
The memorial was a symbol of the community’s solidarity with the Garda who was from the town and died in the line of duty at Lordship Credit Union in Co Louth in January 2013.
Deputy Tully added that what happened at the weekend has been devastating for Garda Donohoe’s family.
Meanwhile the Garda Representative Association has described the incident as malicious cowardly and stupid.
Gardai in Cavan are investigating.
