New legislation that will allow for CCTV to identify illegal dumpers and those who litter the countryside has been introduced.
Cavan Co Councillor Shane P O'Reilly said the move will now ensure that Cavan and Monaghan become cleaner places for everyone.
Speaking on the Wider View this afternoon, Cllr O'Reilly said that fly tipping and littering were at "chronic stages" in rural Ireland.
He added that Cavan County Council has spent thousands of euro in recent years "cleaning up after illegal dumpers and fly tippers".
Cllr O'Reilly says that those who blatantly disregard regulations, need to be dealt with "seriously".
"I also had a major issue with the judiciary in cases where people who engaged in dumping in Co Cavan, and who appeared before the courts, could not be named," he continued.
"That is not on.
"If you commit a crime such as this, it's a crime not just against the local authority.
"It is also a crime against the people who live there and to all the groups who are trying to make our towns and villages the best places they can be."
