The Old Monaghan Society are holding a reminiscence night on the life and times of The Ventures Showband. The popular group previously packed out dance halls all over the country in the 1960s/early 1970s. This much anticipated event will take place in St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre on the Broad Road in Monaghan Town tonight at 8pm.
Speaking to Northern Sound, local man Enda Galligan has encouraged people to “come early” as seating will be at a premium. He added that tonight will be a “trip down memory lane” for those who loved the Irish Showband scene both locally and further afield.
"The Ventures Showband was very popular and it originated in Monaghan Town," said Enda. "The band played together for seven years and in that time recorded many hits which many local people and those from further afield will have fond memories of."
