Fianna Fáil European candidate in Midlands-North West, Senator Niall Blaney, says much more can be achieved on a cross-border basis by working with unionist politicians in the north. To underline the point, Senator Blaney met with Fermanagh General Election candidate, Cllr Diana Armstrong, in the north where they discussed a range of issues affecting people in border counties.
The meeting of the two candidates in different elections discussed ways of boosting trade and continuing difficulties for farmers and the supply of certain veterinary medicines caused by the Windsor Framework. Afterwards, Senator Blaney said the meeting was "a natural follow-on" from meetings he's already had with other Unionist politicians.
"We have common concerns and common goals and it was important we met up to see how we could progress things that matter both sides of the border. The election hopefuls met on the bridge in Belleek, Co. Fermanagh that marks the border.
