EU leaders look set to approve the digital green cert for international travel within the bloc.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Minister has been asking Irish people to stick to staycations this summer to support Irish businesses.
Should EU leaders approve the digital green cert at their Council Summit then it would give each member state six weeks to implement it.
That would mean international travel could be allowed from as early as mid-July.
While welcoming the so-called Covid-passport, Tourism Minister Catherine Martin yesterday encouraged people to stay and spend at home.
A decision on the Digital Green Cert is expected sometime today.
