The EU Commissioner for Financial Services, Mairead McGuinness has highlighted the importance of 'sorting out' the issues around the Northern Ireland Protocol.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Commissioner McGuinness acknowledged the fallout from the UK's exit of the EU but she did point to importance of the protocol for Northern Ireland's farming community and milk suppliers having access to t he single market.
She said there is 'No problem' with the movement of mixed origin foods on the island of Ireland because of the versatility of milk.
But she added the importance of solving the current issues with the protocol cannot be overstated.
The only way to deal with matters, she added, is through open and honest discussion
Meanwhile, UK MPs will vote later on new laws to give ministers powers to override parts of the protocol.
The UK government insists measures to allow the removal of checks on goods travelling from Great Britain to Northern Ireland are necessary.
But the Irish Government and EU say it should only be done in agreement with Brussels.
Northern Ireland secretary Brandon Lewis says the changes will uphold the Good Friday Agreement, despite concerns from opposition parties.
