EthanTierney, the three-year-old from Cavan who is living with a rare disorder has received good news on his treatment journey. The Drumgore toddler has been diagnosed with Hyper IgM syndrome, which makes him prone to infections.
Treatment for the rare condition includes chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant and stem cell therapy. Recently, his parents Jacqui and David Tierney, started a GoFundMe page to raise the €60,000 they estimate it will cost to move their family of seven to the UK while Ethan undergoes the life-saving treatment. While Ethan's parents and medical team prepare for the treatment, the Tierney family have received much-longed for news as doctors have found not just one, but a number of potential matches eligible for bone marrow transplant.
His delighted father, David, told Northern Sound, so many potential donors significantly increases Ethan's chances of normal health. "The good news is they've found not one but, several donors for Ethan, which, is amazing," David told Northern Sound, "So, they were in the process last week and this week of trying to narrow down those donors to be even more specific for a match for Ethan, which, gives his success rate a higher probability and you couldn't really ask for any more ion that regard."
