Enoch Burke has been released from prison. Despite his refusal to give a promise to stay away from his former school, a High Court judge ordered his immediate release to coincide with the summer holidays. In 2022, Enoch Burke spent 108 days behind bars for refusing to obey a court order refraining him from attending at Wilson’s Hospital School. He was released just before Christmas of that year. The following month, he was dismissed from his teaching role at the school after a finding of gross misconduct was made against him.
His continued defiance of court orders led to him being taken back to prison last September and today, 294 days later, he has once again been released. Just like his first release, today’s order was made without him having purged his contempt, having regard for the fact the school is now on its summer holidays. The school’s Board of Management has been given permission to return to court if Mr Burke shows up again when the new term begins.
