A Co Monaghan man is encouraging locals to "give blood" and help "save a life." Fabian Murphy recently gave his 61st donation of blood at a clinic which was recently held in Emyvale. In 2023 just over 75,000 donors in Ireland gave blood, with hospitals needing to collect 3,000 blood donations a week just to maintain supply.
With hospitals busy yet supply low, Mr Murphy is encouraging people to donate at every opportunity they can. Speaking to Northern Sound, he said that to think someone is still alive today due to his donation gives him a "great sense of pride." He continued; "I got a text the other day that stated that St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny was the beneficiary of my donation last week and to think that someone in Kilkenny is hopefully still alive just because I donated blood last week just gives you a glow and that in itself is reward enough, and the sense of pride and satisfaction that comes with that is just fantastic. Whenever I came out of the leisure centre in Emyvale from donating blood I felt like I was 10ft tall."
