A local TD believes it is important to ensure that policies and new infrastructure regarding electricity supply going forward is "future proofed" when it comes to dealing with adverse weather conditions. Sinn Fein's Matt Carthy made reference to the current "debate" which is rife across counties like Cavan and Monaghan when it comes to high voltage power lines. According to Deputy Carthy, EirGrid and the Government are "insisting" that high voltage power lines are put over head with pylon supported infrastructure, despite technology existing that would actually put such infrastructure underground.
Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Deputy Carthy says that underground infrastructure wound "protect" powerlines against all sorts of elements, particularly "strong storms" that we know will be more prevalent in the years to come. Deputy Carthy said that we need to insure that polices and new infrastructure is future proof as well as addressing certain "deficiencies" in the long-standing infrastructures that are in place.
