Elderly Meath woman becomes sixth road victim this year

The female driver of the car, a woman aged in her 80’s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal two-vehicle road traffic collision that occurred on the R156 at Scarriff Bridge, near Trim Co. Meath, today at approximately 12noon.

The collision involved a car and a minibus. The female driver of the car, a woman aged in her 80’s, was later pronounced deceased at the scene. The body has since been removed from the scene, which is preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigations. The road is currently closed.

The driver of the mininbus, a man in his 50s and his passenger, a boy, were taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar, for treatment for injuries believed at this time to be non-life-threatening.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were travelling in the area between 11.15am and 12.15pm today, Friday 5th January 2024, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
