Eirgrid has indicated its interest in meeting elected members across Cavan, Monaghan and Meath to discuss the latest developments over the North South Interconnector. Last week's meeting of Cavan County Council heard the company wanted to meet with all three local authorities to discuss matters further.
Last month Eirgrid announced its intention to over ground the project across all three counties. Cllr Clifford Kelly told Northern Sound that while Eirgrid is welcome to attend a meeting, the company does not have the 'will of the people'.
He added that while local representatives will listen to what the company has to say, "there is no hope it will be supported by anybody across this region". "The situation is that there is no point in saying one thing and thinking another.
"Eirgrid does not have the will of the people; they haven't got the support of the people. We will listen to them but we are not interested in anything else other than undergrounding the cables.
"Up in Kildare, they put the cables underground; they think they will come into Cavan, Monaghan and Meath and put them up now in spite of the people. But, I can tell you now, that's not going to happen.
