EirGrid is being accused of living "in cuckoo land" if it thinks compensation will ease opposition to the North South Interconnector.
The North East Pressure Pylon Campaign group says the energy provider has always been of the view farmers can be bought, and that in any case the proposed compensation is being funded by electricity customers in Ireland.
It comes after planning permission was approved last week for the northern section of the contentious power line.
Campaigners against having pylons on their land say the recent development doesn't change their opposition to their property being used for construction.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Padraig O'Reilly from NEPPC said EirGrid needs to understand what landowners want.
