Eir has applied for planning permission for the construction of a communications mast in county Monaghan.
The company plans to erect an 18-metre-high telecommunications support structure, together with antennas, dishes and ancillary works, at the Eir Exchange site at Inniskeen.
In its application, Eir says "Inniskeen is a known coverage weak spot" and "unlike most towns and villages, there is no identifiable operator mast".
The application adds that this proposed structure would "release Eir to significantly improve its next-generation services from within its own telecommunications exchange compound".
Eir added that this structure "will mitigate against the need for further telecommunications structures in Inniskeen" and will "serve the community for the foreseeable future".
