A Cavan councillor has branded Eir a "disgrace" and a "farce" after it failed to fix a broken landline because they had "no wire in stock".
John Paul Feeley told a recent County Council meeting that a storm at the beginning of December has "knocked out lines" close to his house.
Councillor Feeley says when he most recently contacted Eir over the issue, he was informed the line couldn't be fixed because there was no wire.
He told the meeting this was "laughable" and questioned if Eir is "capable of managing its network and of providing a service".
Councillor Feeley passed a motion calling on COMREG to investigate and called on the Minister for Communications, Eamon Ryan, to intervene.
Cathaoirleach Clifford Kelly also proposed that the Council seek a meeting with Eir over the issue.
