Eighty Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Cavan today.
The latest Department of Health data shows a massive increase in the number of cases in the county.
1,012 cases were confirmed across the country today, with three further deaths also confirmed.
A breakdown of the data shows 241 cases today in Dublin, with 112 in Cork, 80 in Cavan, 72 in Meath, 66 in Galway and the remaining 441 cases are spread across 21 other counties.
A breakdown of all counties is not available but all 26 in the Republic have recorded at least one today.
The news comes as an outbreak of Covid-19 was confirmed in Cavan General Hospital this week
It’s not known how many of today’s cases are linked to the Hospital but nursing and admin staff and patients are confirmed as having tested positive.
Today's figures are the highest number of new positive tests seen in 24 hours since the outbreak reached Ireland.
A number of positive tests for Covid-19 higher than today's figure has been reported just once before.
That was during the first wave back in May, when officials were catching up with a backlog of tests being processed in Germany.
This time the Chief Medical Officer has confirmed that all of the 1,012 cases being reported today were notified in the 24 hours up to midnight on Friday.
Far more tests are now being carried out -- but Dr Tony Holohan is warning there's been a "consistent rise" in the percentage of those tests returning positive for the virus.
He says the positivity rate's more than doubled in the last fortnight to 6.2 per cent.
199 people with the virus are now in hospital, with 31 patients being treated in intensive care.
Dr Holohan says he is "worried about the numbers ... and how quickly they are deteriorating".
