The Department of Education has confirmed that planning for additional accommodation at St Bricin's College in Belturbet has been granted.
Cavan County Council has approved the application submitted by Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board for eight new classrooms at the college.
The eight classrooms will include two special education rooms.
An office, toilet facilities and a multi-sensory room will also be provided for.
Deputy Brendan Smith said the development was important and will "considerably enhance" the services provided by the second level school.
"I welcome this planning approval which will enable the ETB to progress this important building project," he continued.
"It will also enhance considerably the accommodation at St Bricin's College."
