Monaghan County Council spent 78,000 euro dealing with illegal dumping and clean up works for diesel laundering between January and July this year.
A recent meeting of the Monaghan Joint Policing Committee heard that since March Environmental Services conducted four joint operations with the Gardaí relating to large scale waste activities in the county.
While not all of these cases found offences, a number of enforcement actions have commenced, however Acting Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken said he was not aware of any arrests being made.
Members were told that the sporadic diesel washing still seen locally is all in the South-East of the county, something Castleblayney Councillor Aidan Campbell says is something he wants to see prosecuted:
