€25,000 in funding has been awarded to Blackhill in Monaghan while €10,000 has been allocated to Gaeil Triucha CLG. In Cavan, Kildallan receives €25,000 and €10,000 will be allocated to Cornafean GFC.
The once-off national allocation of €815,000 is being provided by Healthy Ireland and is designed to make community walking tracks located on GAA grounds more accessible to everyone. Minister Heather Humphreys said GAA clubs play a vital role in the provision of facilities and activities to people young and old.
Meanwhile, Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Deputy Niamh Smyth, highlighted how the funding from Healthy Ireland would enable local clubs to expand and improve their walking infrastructure. She added that people will now be 'empowered' to stay active all year round in safe and inclusive spaces.
"In Cavan two clubs have received funding while two clubs are also getting funding in Co Monaghan. It is very welcomed news to see all these upgraded walking tracks opening up. And, we know our GAA clubs have really opened up their doors to allow everybody both inside and outside of the community to access facilities," said Deputy Smyth.
