€6.5m has just been announced for a new development at Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark Park on the Cavan - Fermanagh border. The money allocated will develop a visitors centre on the site of the old post office in Glangevlin and the development of access to St John's Waterfall near the Tullydermot Falls. A walking trail network will be developed to link existing trails North and South of the border enhancing and further linking the local tourism offerings at Cuilcagh and the wider cross-border UNESCO Global Geopark.
The money for the cross-border Cuilcagh Masterplan was allocated through the Shared Island Initiative. Also under construction at the first cross-border UNESCO site in the world, is the major Discovery Centre at the Shannon Pot Glangevlin with an investment in excess of €10 Million.
Cavan-Monaghan TD Brendan Smith said visitor displays, walking trails through the forest and a major viewing point will all dovetail very well with the amenities developed already as part of Cavan Burren Park (listen below):
