Over the 19 days predicted before power would be restored to her mother's house, the storm would cost the pensioner €833.

A Tullycorbet woman who was without power after storm Éowyn for 13 days has counted the cost for families like hers.

Ashling Mc Cabe said it cost her mother €49 a day to run a generator on petrol and a single-ring gas hob to cook on. Over the 19 days ESB predicted it would take before power would be restored to her mother's house, Ashling said this would set her mother back €931.

Ashling Mc Cabe had to move her mother and brother with additional needs in to her house because they had no heating in their own home and the cost to stay there was too much for a pensioner:
